While pharmacies may use spoon measurements or metric dosages on your prescription label, both have risks when it comes to medication error.  Metric measurements mistakes often happen at the pharmacy as a result of a missed decimal point.  Spoon measurements, however, are likely to cause wrong dosage mistakes in Houston when it comes time to pour out the medication:

• Many people will use whatever silverware they have on hand, assuming all “teaspoons” are the same size

The safest way to measure a liquid medication?  Use a dosage cup that is clearly marked with both spoon and milliliter measurements, and always call your doctor with questions if a dosage seems inappropriate.
