I am a hemodialysis patient and was recently given the wrong medication dose during dialysis and have had severe side effects because of it. Who can be held responsible for the dosage error?

A:

If hospital staff or a hospital pharmacy worker made an error in dosage during dialysis you can suffer adverse drug events, including

  • heart attack,
  • low blood pressure, or
  • arrhythmia.

Medication dosage errors are often completely preventable, since pharmacists and hospital staff have a duty of care to ensure you receive the correct dose of medication. Nurses and pharmacy staff often make mistakes that can alter a person’s life forever and some medication mistakes can cause death.

You may have a claim for compensation if you suffered side effects after receiving the wrong dose of medication either from a pharmacy or a hospital. The best course of action is to consult a personal injury attorney to investigate your case immediately.
